I completed the coursework and pool training for my SSI (Scuba Schools International) Open Water Scuba Diver Certification in Baltimore this fall but because of some scheduling conflicts was not able to complete the final 5 dives.
Fortunately I was able to hook up with a dive center out here in San Diego, Dive California, and knock out the final 5 dives in epic fashion!
I, along with my awesome dive instructor Danielle, had two full mornings of beach diving off of La Jolla Shores – one of the best dives spots in Southern California.
The conditions were perfect – visibility was almost 40 feet both days and the current was non-existent – and we were able to spot a ton of wildlife including Sheep Crabs, Sheephead Fish, Sea Slugs, Sarcastic Fringehead (yup that’s their actual name), sting rays, giant kelp and numerous other small, brightly-colored fish.
I even got to pick up one of the HUMONGOUS Sheep Crab (2-3 feet across)! Check out the pics:
